Leadership Development Requirements (LDRs)
There are many ways for cadets to get involved. In addition to community service, which each cadet is expected to perform a minimum of 12 community service hours each year, cadets also have many leadership development requirements, or LDRs, in which to participate. An LDR is simply an extra-curricular activity, almost exclusively held after school, that is designed to help cadets grow mentally and physically. Cadets can earn varsity letters and ribbons for their accomplishments (varsity letter requirements can be found here; ribbon requirements can be found here).
Each year at Etowah JROTC, we participate in at least seven, and as many as 12, LDRs for the student's development. These LDRs are all STEM-based, Activities-based, and School-based in their focus. LDRs are cadet led, and the student leaders plan, organize, and execute all activities while also seeing to it that participation is logged in our intranet portal, WINGS, so HQ Air Force JROTC can track our progress.
In the 2023 - 2024 academic year, we anticipate adding Archery and VEX Robotics to this list. In the meantime, however, please find below and in the subsequent pages the LDRs that cadets currently participate in at Etowah High School.
