The following is the policy for awarding varsity letters to JROTC cadets for their participation in Marksmanship and/or Raider during the 2023 – 2024 academic year.
Criteria.
In order to qualify for a varsity letter, the cadet must:
Be present for at least 90 percent of all in-season practices.
Participate in at least two-thirds of all scheduled competitions.
Remain with the team for the entire season.
Have no in-school or out-of-school suspensions (ISS or OSS respectively). A cadet placed in OSS will be immediately removed from the team and barred from further participation.
Completed at least 10 community service hours at the time of varsity letter award ceremony in the semester granted (15 community service hours required of cadet officers).
All varsity letter recipients will be passing all of their classes at the time the letter is awarded.
100 percent uniform wear on inspection days.
A varsity letter represents “the best of the best” in a program. Thus, the standards outlined above are rigorous and demanding. For Raider, which runs in the Fall, varsity letters will be awarded at the end of the Fall semester. For Marksmanship, which runs in the Winter, varsity letters will be awarded on awards night. Instructor discretion can be utilized in extreme and exceptional cases but only on a very limited case-by-case basis.
