Congratulations to the Etowah Orienteers who completed the 2022 - 2003 season with the varsity team ranked as national champions in Air Force JROTC!
Description.
Orienteering is a sport of navigation, often held in unfamiliar terrain, using a map and compass. It's a great way to exercise both mind and body while enjoying the outdoors.
Orienteering is held during the late Fall, early Winter months of the school year. Events are typically held on Georgia's State Parks. The sport is open to everyone from novice to advanced as there are different orienteering courses at a competition based on one's ability. Practices during the season are typically held three days a week and last about 1.5 hours each day. The first 45 to 50 minutes is running and calisthenics while the last 30 minutes is classroom instructor to focus on map reading and navigational skills.
2023 Team Leaders. The Commander and Deputy Commanders of the Etowah Orienteering team will be announced by August.
Season.
The Orienteering season will begin in early November and will run through January. It is possible there will be one or two pre- or post-season events for interested students, but these will be solely for the purpose of exploring orienteering as a sport and not for competition.
Event Schedule.
The 2023 - 2024 season schedule is not known at this time and will be posted below by September. Please check back at that time and be on the lookout for sign-ups.
