Description.
Raider Competition, or "Raider" as it is more commonly known, is a very popular athletic competition held within JROTC programs around the United States. It is a JROTC equivalent of the Army ROTC "Ranger" competition in college, only far less dangerous but very challenging as well!
The exact Raider events differ depending on where you are competing. Generally, no matter where you compete, there will be some type of personal fitness/individual strength test (i.e., push-ups, curl-ups, tire drag or flip, obstacle course, etc.). There will also be a distance team running event along with some type of through-the-woods obstacle type event, and also some form of rescue/first aid event. Lastly, almost every Raider event has some form of rope bridge, construction/transport component. Other events such as a first aid test, land navigation, etc. are also common.
2023 Team Leaders. The Commander and Deputy Commanders of the Etowah Raider team are c/2nd Lt Austin Brice and c/2nd Lt Cheyenne Bradley respectively.
Season.
The Raider season begins in August and runs through the first weekend of November. Pre-season condition is the key to the season's success, so Raiders work out as a team during the Summer. Recognizing that during the Summer the participants have camps, vacations, and work, pre-season condition is optional but highly recommended when a student is available.
Event Schedule.
The Fall 2023 season schedule is listed below and was decided from the list of Raider events posted at gajrotc.com/raider. We are thankful for all the host schools that decide to put on a competition during the season, and LOIs will be pulled from the gajrotc.com/raider website.
